What private label wine really means
Private label wine, also called own-brand wine, is wine made for you and sold under your name. It is built around your customer and your channel: a restaurant list asks for something different from a retail shelf or an export portfolio. You decide what the brand stands for, how it looks and who it speaks to. The production side is taken care of by people who do it every day.
Who launches their own wine brand
The people we talk to are importers and distributors who want a portfolio of their own, shops and wine stores that look for a brand nobody else can offer, restaurants and hotels that want their own line on the list, companies that give wine as a gift, and entrepreneurs with a project and a story to tell. They share one wish: to have something of their own that grows with them.
Do you need a winery? No
Many people with a good idea for a wine brand stop at the same belief: that they need land, a cellar, a large investment and a lot of wine knowledge. A model without a winery of your own removes that barrier. Vinify works with partner wineries in Mendoza that already produce and export, and a winemaker accompanies the whole process. You keep the part only you can do: the brand, the story and the relationship with your customers.
From idea to bottle, step by step
- Define who the wine is for. Your customer, your channel (restaurant, shop, e-commerce, export or corporate gifts) and the feeling the brand should give.
- Choose the profile with the winemaker. Malbec is the flagship grape of Mendoza, grown in vineyards at around 900 meters of altitude; Cabernet Franc is another option. The winemaker helps you match style and quality level to your customer.
- Design the label. Choose among six standard label lines with your brand in place, or ask for a fully custom label made for you.
- Production, lot by lot. A winemaker selects the lot, follows it through to bottling and answers for it with a lab analysis (COA) of every lot.
- Registration and documents. Optional trademark registration for your brand and the export documentation, in the same place.
- Launch. Your bottles, ready to tell your story.
Why the origin matters
Mendoza is the land of Malbec. The vineyards we work with sit at around 900 meters of altitude, and that gives your brand a story that is easy to tell and a wine your customers can taste.
What to look for in a private label partner
Not every program works the same way. Five things make the difference when your name is on the label:
- A winemaker who answers for every lot, not only at the start.
- A lab analysis (COA) of each lot, so you know exactly what you are selling.
- Partner wineries that already export, so the wine is made by people who know how to ship it.
- Everything included in the standard price: bottle, cork, capsule, label and COA.
- One place for everything and clear communication at every step.
A signal that the model works
A brand that was born with Vinify, without a vineyard or a structure of its own, sells more than 20,000 bottles a year. It shows that the model works when the brand is clear and someone follows every lot behind it.
Questions to ask yourself before you start
A few questions make the first conversation with the winemaker much easier. Who is my customer, and where will they buy? What should the label say about my brand? What level of quality fits that customer? Do I want a standard label line or something made only for me? You do not need all the answers: we are glad to walk you through them.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need my own winery or vineyard?
No. The wine is made with partner wineries in Mendoza that already export, and a winemaker follows each lot. You bring the brand and the customer.
Can I use my own label design?
Yes. You can choose among six standard label lines or request a fully custom label, which is an add-on.
Who is responsible for the quality of each lot?
The winemaker selects the lot, follows it through to bottling and backs it with a lab analysis (COA) of every lot.
